Driving in the Liberty Tunnel
wondering why anyone would go
below 50 mph

My first time driving in the city was with
a high school best friend
for ice cream in the South Side

Now I drive in the city with tears in my eyes
wondering if we are good for each other

Back and forth
multiple times a day
I drive through the city

These bridges have carried me into adulthood

I wonder if driving across these bridges will
hum my child to sleep
one day

I stay just far away enough from
the car in front of me
so I don’t get too close

Just like I do with people
